Kido Pham vs Doug Lee: verbal trickery and making speeches

Interesting hand between Kido Pham and Doug Lee, where Pham flops the straight and talks a lot, trying to manipulate Doug into thinking he’s weak. In general, I think it’s one of those cases where the more a player is talking, the more you have to be cautious, because speeches usually equal strength.

Staring at hole cards usually means a weak hand

Players who stare for a while the first time they look at their hole cards are more likely to have weak cards. Relatedly, though less common and useful, players who quickly look away from hole cards are more likely to have strong cards.

Bet timing tells. Strategic use of calling the clock.

This is about a guy I’ve played with a few times who regularly takes a super-long time to act, and about how I deal with that by calling the clock on him. It’s also about a strategic use of calling the clock, based on how I think this player perceived my use of calling the clock on him. Also some talk about bet-timing, and how players who take a long time to act when they’re strong will tend to act fairly quickly when bluffing.
